This issue of a+u magazine features dwellings in France, showcasing a diverse array of projects - newly constructed urban houses, renovated farmhouses, and mixed-use apartment buildings in redevelopment districts.
Among the 4 Paris-based projects are social housings by the public agency of the city (RIVP), a multiphase residential complex that blends renovation with new construction in a historic preservation district (PSMV), and student housing on the multicultural campus of Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. These projects highlight the varied efforts of architects and stakeholders when building within this unique and historic city. Additional projects – small houses in a range of locations - reflect the architects’ sensitivity to existing conditions, along with their commitment to creating structures with strong form and character that can both confront and adapt to unique challenges. This issue presents 6 multiunit projects and 12 single-family houses as examples of current work in France that balances the pragmatic with the playful.
