After studying at University College Dublin, Níall McLaughlin moved to London, where in 1990 he set up his own office. Since then, he has developed a solid career, defined by a timeless language and an attentive dialogue with context.

This issue of AV Monographs takes stock of his career with a selection of twenty of his main works. Featured in chronological order these key projects reflect a commitment to the discipline that makes no distinctions of scale or program. Floor plans of bold geometry and facades of tactile sensuality are as present in the domestic projects of Piper’s End and Goleen as they are in the large buildings for the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, as well as in the civic complexes in London and Limerick, in all of which shines the so very British spirit of honouring the past without ceasing to look in the direction of the future.
