Atelier Julien Boidot’s first publication looks back at a transformation of a school complex in Guécelard, a commune on the outskirts of Le Mans in the Sarthe region of France. This book answers a simple question: how can the story of an architectural project be told in the most obvious and generous way possible?

This manifesto project testifies to the agency’s architectural commitment to ordinary peri-urban territories, where bioclimatic, constructive and spatial issues are addressed with interest. The book takes the decision to show all aspects of the project through an almost exhaustive selection of documents produced during the study, design, construction and delivery phases (drawings, sketches, models, photographs, etc.), thus becoming a true visual archive of the project. Nothing is hidden, everything is discussed, in the image and at the level of the architects’ commitment. The editorial approach extends the basic approach to architecture through an artefact-free staging that gives pride of place to documents usually reserved for the backstage of architectural design.
