Het Compendium is samengesteld en geschreven door het Londense onderzoeks- en ontwerpbureau 00:/ met financiële ondersteuning van Nesta en Cabe. De publicatie verscheen in 2011 in een beperkte oplage en was onmiddellijk uitverkocht. Dat verhinderde niet dat in de hele westerse wereld het boek wordt gezien als een belangrijke inspiratiebron en onontbeerlijk handboek bij het beter begrijpen en opzetten van lokale economische intiatieven van burgers. Deze herdruk voldoet aan een grote behoefte.
